A national roll-out is transforming the way the company operates.
On a mission to improve security, Edward Hore began looking for alternatives to doing business over the internet.
IT manager of tyre retailer Bob Jane T-Marts, Mr Hore didn’t want to do business transactions – buying, selling, issuing cash receipts – on an unsecure public network.
He wanted a secure private network and the company has now almost finished a nationwide roll-out of a wide area network, with Ethernet ports to 142 sites, which include franchises, state offices and warehouses, company stores, Calder Park and Adelaide International Raceway. It took about 40 days.
After talking to Telstra, Primus and Optus, Mr Hore decided to go with Optus and broadband network services company Uecomm.
“Telstra was very sales oriented (but) I need facts and figures. They wouldn’t talk technical with me. They wouldn’t tell me how things would work. They wouldn’t tell me what I wanted to know, and they were using too many third party providers, which would cost me more.
“Primus couldn’t deliver a private WAN which was reasonably portable. They could tell me when it went down but would charge more to tell me why.
