Bankruptcy of Krispy Kreme franchisee leads to store closures

If you have a craving for a stop at a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, you’ll have to drive a ways.
“The Krispy Kreme’s franchisee in Arizona and New Mexico recently filed for bankruptcy, and Krispy Kreme is currently working with Rigel Corp. to assess the situation,” Krispy Kreme spokesman James Golden told KTAR-AM 620 Newsradio Friday. Golden says Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme (NYSE: KKD) is looking for a new franchisee to take over the stores, in hopes of reopening them as quickly as possible. According to the Krispy Kreme corporate Web site, there are five stores in the Valley and another two in Tucson.
A store director in Tucson told KOLD News 13 that the order to close the two Tucson stores came at the last minute, leaving 55 people without a job.
