If you place an order to a Pizza Hut anywhere in the Mid-South, chances are the call will get routed to Bartlett.

Pizza Hut opened a call center last Friday at 7990 Highway 64 Suite 101 that takes orders for 129 restaurants from Grenada, Miss. to Champaign, Ill. and Little Rock, Ark. to Birmingham, Ala. Aptly named the Customer Mania Center, the location has 202 computer and phone stations for employees to take orders, handle complaints and receive any in-bound calls to its restaurants in the area. The new Bartlett call center replaced two locations, one in Memphis and one in Little Rock, that previously handled the calls.
Pizza Hut’s new hub for phone traffic will employ 300 people, with 75 percent of its staff working part-time in the afternoons and at night. Call center manager Patrick Sloyan said the company hopes to hire teenagers and college students to fill many of the part-time positions, giving younger workers a chance to earn some money while developing useful life skills.
“When you are a teenager, you don’t have a lot of good places to work. You might work at a fast food place or some place like that,” Sloyan said. “Here you will learn skills that you won’t get at other places. You learn how to deal with people.”
In the same shift, employees receive calls from rural Arkansas to posh neighborhoods such as River Oaks in Memphis, learning to communicate with the gamut of people.
After deciding to consolidate phone operations in the Memphis area, Pizza Hut chose Bartlett over Millington because the company thought the location near Wolfchase and heavily traveled traffic corridors would be better.
“We knew we wanted something in this area,” Sloyan said. “We looked at Millington too, but we didn’t think that we would be able to get as many employees out there.”
In upcoming months, additional phone stations will be set up to receive calls from a toll-free Hispanic line that will handle calls in Spanish.
