A Preston pet food firm is taking a leaf out of the book of a very different member of the food industry as it looks to spread across the country.
Oscar Pet Foods, which is based at Bannister Hall Mill in Higher Walton, is taking up the model of fast-food restaurant McDonald’s as it launches a drive to find new franchisees to sell its product.

The firm, which has been selling pet food, products and accessories through its home delivery service since 1993, is ready to expand on its 87 outlets nationwide. And it is ready to take the McDonald’s approach.

Sales director Richard Dancy said: “The best known and most successful franchise in the world is McDonald’s and while we are selling a very different product to them, the principle is the same.

“When you take over a McDonald’s franchise you are buying a tried and tested product, you get full training and a ready-made business which just needs someone to run it.

“That is what you get with Oscar Pet Foods. We provide 11 days’ training and a support network among our other franchisees.”

Mr Dancy said the quality of the food sold is of such high quality it surpasses major brand names - and he has even tried some himself.

As well as having a unique home delivery and customer support service to offer, franchisees can benefit from a web-based support network with fellow outlets across the country.
