Fast-food outlets allowed to open earlier

KOTA BARU: Fast-food outlets in the state can apply to open for business from noon instead of 3pm during Ramadan.
Local Government Committee chairman Takiyuddin Hassan, however, said the operators have to observe the fasting regulations of not selling food to Muslims.
“Perhaps, they can operate from noon. It depends but they must approach us formally,” he said.
Fast-food outlets, franchise restaurants including nasi kandar shops had been directed to open from 3pm onwards during Ramadan.
Other times of the year they operate from 10am to 10pm.
Chinese and Indian restaurants are allowed to operate as usual but they must not sell food to Muslims or risk having their licence suspended.
Takiyuddin said Chinese-owned restaurants with Muslim workers could operate as usual but they must not sell food to Muslim clients or workers.
Takiyuddin praised restaurant operators for displaying signs informing Muslims that they are not allowed to patronise or buy food.
