KUB seeks bidders for A&W franchise
KUB Malaysia Bhd is proposing to dispose of its wholly-owned subsidiary Restoran Kualiti Sdn Bhd (RKSB), which owns and operates the A&W fast-food restaurant franchise in Malaysia and Thailand.
The group’s merchant bankers, RHB Sakura Merchant Bankers Bhd, yesterday sent out an invitation to prospective investors to submit their offers for KUB’s entire stake in RKSB and the rights for the A&W franchise.
The identities of the potential investors were not disclosed.
In a statement, KUB said the proposed disposal is the first step in the group’s exit from the non-core food and beverage sector.
“By rationalising our non-core asset portfolios, we will be able to focus our energies on our core businesses of information and communications technology, energy, facilities management and defence.
“The sale will also unlock the value of the group’s non-core assets and release resources which can be channelled towards debt reduction and future investments,” KUB Malaysia chief executive officer Izham Yusoff said in the statement.
