The latest coffee sensation to have hit the shores of Singapore, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, has been honored by the Franchising & Licensing Association Singapore (FLA), as the 2006 International Franchisor of the Year.

This is the first time the International Franchisor of the Year Award has been presented. The organizers, Franchise and License Association Singapore (FLA), together with auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), are using Singapore as a launching pad for this inaugural award. International entries are invited through the World Franchise Council, comprising about 36 member countries in the organization. The award is presented to the most outstanding franchisor recognized for its success and performance in its own country and acknowledged as the benchmark for all franchising businesses.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to participate along with other esteemed contestants at the International Franchisor of the Year Award here in Singapore. Winning the award is testimony to the strength of our brand. I attribute this award to the commitment of all our franchisees around the world, and we proudly accept this honor on behalf of Gloria Jean’s Coffee International,” says Troy Franklin, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Gloria Jean’s Coffees International.

Other contestants included Carl’s Junior (USA), Smart Reader (Malaysia), Zee Interactive Learning Systems (India), Pho 24 (Vietnam), Fornet (China) and Multiplus (Indonesia). These participating companies were evaluated based on five criteria: Strategy, System, Marketing, Franchise Relations and Financials.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees in Australia has won the Australia Franchisor of the Year award in 2005/2006. Gloria Jean’s Coffees has also won the 2006 AMEX Retailer of the Award.

“I believe Gloria Jean’s Coffees has received so much recognition recently because we are loved by our customers and respected by our peers and those involved in our industry. We will continue to satisfy every customer one cup at a time, strengthen our relationships with our partners and stakeholders, and serve the community through humanitarian activities worldwide,” says Troy Franklin, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Gloria Jean’s Coffees International.
