Firm offers dogs, cats plenty of pampering in mobile spas
There’s nothing certain in life except death and taxes — and that people’s dogs and cats will always need to be bathed and groomed.
That’s what Arnaldo Vieira, master franchisor for Canada for Aussie Pet Mobile, is counting on as he expands the business across the country, including about 20 franchisees planned for the Ottawa area by 2009.
“(The business) is recession-proof,” says Vieira, who already has two franchisees and eight vehicles operating in the Toronto area. The concept, which originated in Australia, operates in 16 countries.
The DaimlerChrysler Sprinter vans are self-contained with their own water and power. They’re also equipped with heated hydrobaths and everything else needed to offer cats and dogs a 15-step spa treatment — right in the owner’s driveway.
Fully equipped, each vehicle is worth about $80,000, Vieira says.
“It could almost be a spa for humans,” he adds.
In addition to bathing, brushing, clipping and trimming, services include “pawdicures” and nail painting, as well as massage and aloe treatments for dry skin.
Flea and tick treatment, as well as “emergency” runs for such things as skunk sprays, can be arranged, says Vieira.
