Marks & Spencer to open shop in Kolkata soon
Marks & Spencer, the UK retail major, is making its debut in Kolkata within the next 15 days at a 30,000 sq ft property being developed by the Avani group, next to the landmark Exide Industries headquarters here.
Planet Retail Holdings Pvt Ltd, which is the master franchisee for a host of other international brands as well, would also simultaneously open outlets of such brands like Planet Sports, Next, Guess, The Body Shop, Accessorize and Converse, each catering to specific customer needs.
We are working overtime to launch all these stores within the next 15 days,” said officials of Planet Retail. “Our total retail space of 30,000 sq ft is spread out over three floors of this 12-floor property. The ground floor would have The Body Shop, which was recently launched in India; Guess, the denim and casuals brand; Accessorize and Converse. The mezzanine floor would have Planet Sports, the original brand of the company.
“The second floor will house Marks & Spencer, spread over 9,000 sq ft. The third floor has been reserved for Next, our new apparel chain which would be opened later,” the official said.
Planet Retail has over 55 stores across various concepts and formats with a total retail space of over 1 lakh square feet.
The company also holds licensing rights for brands like Wilson, Puma, Speedo and Zara. Its latest launches in India include The Body Shop, now owned by L’Oreal; and Debenhams, a department store brand with over 50 exclusive designers and its own brands and labels in UK and Ireland.
