O’Briens in Castlebar is best in Ireland

O’Brien’s popular Castlebar outlet has taken the title of Shop of the Year.
Beating stiff competition from more than 120 O’Briens Sandwich Bars outlets throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Castlebar shop at De La Salle Place has scooped the hand cut sandwich and gourmet coffee franchise’s top accolade.
This means a double celebration for Castlebar franchisee Laura Hill who is also marking five years in business this month. Picking up the award at the O’Briens conference in Dublin, Laura praised her supervisor, Emma Kirrane and staff of 14 for their hard work and dedication that helped the shop lift the title. She also paid particular thanks to employee Eileen Gibbons, who has worked with her from the start.
“We have seen the business consistently grow since we opened in 2001 with our catering experiencing significant development,” said Laura. “This award is great recognition for us all, particularly as we work hard to maintain high brand standards, ensure customer satisfaction and ultimately run a very successful business.”
Laura, who moved to Castlebar from Dublin in 2000, was a former accountant working in the past for the Bank of Ireland and Hertz Car Rental, before opening her O’Briens franchise. She is married to financial advisor, Peter, and the couple have three sons, Cameron (eight), Calum (four) and Alastair (three).
Commenting on the award, O’Briens Chief Executive Officer Fiacra Nagle said: “The Shop of the Year title reflects a simply superb performance by Laura and her team throughout the past year. Results are based on a wide variety of criteria ranging from the finest customer service to best cost of sales – basically an all-round first class service. This is one shop that just goes from strength to strength and is a real credit to the brand.”
