Extreme Pita eyes franchise expansion
A Canadian company specializing in fast food based on an ancient Middle Eastern bread is making a push in Northern California to expand its budding franchise network in the United States.
An Extreme Pita store opened Monday in Modesto, and a franchise company representative said several investors are interested in opening as many as five Stockton stores within the next six to 12 months.
“We found a great little niche between fast food and healthy food,” said Ray Zandi, president of Dublin-based DesertBay Development, which is developing Extreme Pita franchise outlets in Northern California. “What we basically offer is a healthy alternative to the fast-food option.”
The company, founded in Toronto in 1997, specializes in freshly grilled pita-based sandwiches, pizzas and salads.
