Applebee’s in Winnipeg may soon receive a revitalized image if shareholders approve
Applebee’s in Winnipeg may soon receive a revitalized image if shareholders approve the sale of the family restaurant chain to the IHOP Corp.
Applebee’s International Inc.’s board of directors has already given the deal the go-ahead, which would represent a transaction of about US$2.1 billion. Applebee’s would sell for $25.50 per share.
“They are still going to be two separate brands,” said Applebee’s spokeswoman Laura Tigges, noting more details will be available after the shareholder vote.
There are currently three Applebee’s locations in Winnipeg and 1,943 worldwide. IHOP has 1,319 restaurant locations in North America and U.S. territories. “We look forward to applying the same focus and discipline to Applebee’s that we have employed at IHOP over the last several years,” IHOP CEO Julia Stewart told investors earlier this summer.
“We have successfully restructured our own company, and in the process, re-energized our brand,” she said, adding that same formula would be applied to Applebee’s.
Part of that plan would include franchising the majority of Applebee’s 508 company-owned restaurants.
