Area 24-hour gyms gain popularity
The Christmas season isn’t a good time to quit a workout regime, said La Crosse resident Mary Collins as she flexed her muscles into another arm curl.
Collin’s regular health club in La Crosse isn’t open weekends or holidays and therefore doesn’t allow her to continue working out regularly this time of the year.
That’s why for 30 days over the holiday season, she has taken a break from her regular health club and paid a little more to go to Snap Fitness, a 24-hour, seven day a week facility.
“It’s nice to have a place you know is going to be open so you can’t make up any excuses about not going,” she said.
It appears many others, both locally and nationally, are thinking like Collins.
Snap Fitness, a compact fitness center, which began franchising a little over three years ago, now has more than 1,100 locations nationwide, according to its Web site, and about 90 facilities in Wisconsin, said La Crosse Snap Fitness Owner Robin Kohls.
