Innovative Pet Service Expands Across Country
Born in Houston but spreading its wings, Waggin’ Tailz has sold its third franchise and is setting up shop in Weare, N.H. The innovative petsitting service has followed a rapid path of success since its establishment in 2006, swiftly acquiring hundreds of clients and selling its first two franchises this past July.
“The business took off so quickly, and I was getting requests for service well out of my coverage area,” explains Waggin’ Tailz founder Karen Cockrill. “I wanted to offer franchises so that we could have independent locations to service other areas.”
Enter Michael Pope, the newest franchisee, and the two Houston-based franchises that preceded him. Pope says he researched a lot of franchise opportunities, but was drawn to Waggin’ Tailz by his love for animals and the affordability of its fees.
“Residents of greater Manchester, N.H. will benefit from our services — a cost-saving, reliable alternative to kennels and doggy daycare,” says Pope. “Pets are more comfortable in their own environment and with their own daily routine, and some pets suffer stress from being around other animals.”
Contributing to the growth of Waggin’ Tailz is a combination of demand for pet care coupled with the company transcending the basics of a petsitting service.
Its Royal-T Services, for example, include round-the-clock care, a pet taxi, and field trips. All Waggin’ Tailz employees are certified in pet CPR, it has accounts with local emergency vet clinics, carries full bonding and insurance, and maintains an online scheduling system with which clients can track the dates of previous and future visits, make schedule changes, and pay their bill. Further toward its high standard, Waggin’ Tailz requires anyone who works with the company to pass a drug screen, a background check, and complete its training program.
And then, of course, there is the ever-valuable life experience. Pope has shared his entire life with dogs and cats, and has dealt with health issues ranging from fleas to cancer.
