Succulent Seafood Will Hook You Up

Whether your taste buds are trolling for a platter of fresh, tender grilled swordfish, warm tomato salad and pasta or a smouldering bag of heaven-scented buttermilk-battered, deep-fried lake perch, Succulent Seafood is the place to cast your line.
Owner John O’Connell and his small but cheerful band of workers relish the opportunity to hook up taste buds with just the right seafood: fresh, frozen or skillfully prepared.
Trained in the culinary arts at College of DuPage, O’Connell culled an appreciation of seafood at restaurants and stores here and on the East Coast. After working at a variety of local Jewel food stores, he decided 13 years ago to open Succulent Seafood in Naperville Plaza, nestled at the southwest corner of Washington Street and Gartner Road.
The affable O’Connell said he chose that location because the plaza is the city’s oldest, and the neighborhood among the most established. “It just sort of fell into place,” he said.
Soon after, shoppers looking for fresh seafood started falling into the place. At that time, Succulent Seafood sold only fresh or frozen seafood, as well as sauces and batter mixes. Business was great, O’Connell said, but more and more customers said a little fried shrimp would be nice. “So, I said, ‘What the heck?’” Continue reading this story.
