Dunn Bros. Shifting To Company-Run Store Growth

Interest in coffeehouse franchises is losing steam, so Dunn Bros. Coffee Franchising Inc. plans to start opening company-owned locations later this year.
Minneapolis-based Dunn now owns just one of its 92 locations — a store at 201 S. Third Ave. in Minneapolis — but it expects to open two company-owned stores this year and three or four next year. The coffee chain is exploring opportunities in the Twin Cities, Dallas, St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo., including former Starbucks Coffee Co. stores that have closed in those markets.
“It won’t be large-scale, but it will be significant,” said CEO Chris Eilers, who co-owns Dunn with his business partner, Skip Fay.
