Pizza-Pizza Guy’s Teachings Deliver Success

When pizza chain giant Michael Ilitch spoke, Stan Berenbaum listened closely.
“Here was a guy who started with one store and just by sheer force of exercising opportunities, grew it and created an empire,” Berenbaum said of his mentor, the founder of Little Caesars and owner of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
Berenbaum had worked at a Detroit law firm with a focus on anti-trust, trade regulation and franchising issues before joining the pizza-pizza company’s in-house legal department.
In the eight years that followed, his education was broadened beyond the law books. He became more involved in the business side of things — and had an opportunity to learn from Ilitch.
“A lot I learned from him was watching, observing and listening very carefully. When he said something, it was very important and insightful,” he said.
