Franchise Opportunity Put Career Ideals Back On Track

Growing up in Tipton, I would have to say times seemed simple and life was good. My father worked two jobs most of his life, and my mother stayed home raising seven children.
My first job was having a paper route when I was 11 years old. This job taught me the value of hard work. When I got my driver’s license, I started working at a service station. Both my father and the station manager helped develop my work ethic and my determination to be meticulous at whatever task I was doing.
After high school, I studied pharmacy at Purdue University. I think both of my parents were somewhat surprised at my choice of study, since they thought I would go to medical school or major in engineering. However, I wanted a career where I would have contact with people and still be in the health-care field.
When I graduated in 1974, I went to work for Hook’s Drugs. I thoroughly enjoyed working for this company. I received many awards and was being groomed for a midlevel management position that I rejected twice. I saw the management opportunity as loss of contact with customers that would take me away from pharmacy operations.
