Air Force Vet, Wife To Become Franchisees At Port Orange Store

Four years after Randy Harrell retired as a distributor for a local manufacturer, he is going back to work, this time for himself.
However, he will be sharing the role of “boss” with his wife Kristy Harrell.
The Port Orange couple are slated to become the owners of the 7-Eleven convenience store at U.S. 1 and Dunlawton Avenue. It is the same location where Kristy Harrell, who has been employed by the chain for 30 years, has spent the past two years as manager.
“He has finally figured out what I have been doing for the last 30 years,” Kristy Harrell, 46, said.
The couple started considering the idea of becoming a franchisee when the chain announced plans two years ago to begin offering franchises in Florida. They decided to move forward when 7-Eleven introduced a special program that offered a discount for military veterans.
Harrell, 61, spent four years in the Air Force in the 1970s.
“I wanted to stay in (the military),” he said, but he missed being home for the holidays. “I spent only one Christmas at home during those four years.”
