Anytime Fitness Owner Fills Niche In The Market
The Green Bay Press-Gazette talks with people from a variety of business disciplines each week in its Saturday conversation feature. This week, Karmen Smith, owner of 11 Anytime Fitness locations in Northeastern Wisconsin, talks about striking out on her own and recently being named Club Operator of the Year by the franchise.
Q. Can you talk about why you decided to leave a desk job for Anytime Fitness? What was it like to take that step on your own as a franchisee?
A. I decided to leave my desk job because, frankly, I couldn’t see myself sitting there for 20 to 30 years. I drove past an Anytime Fitness location in the Minneapolis area, and that’s all that it took.
Pretty soon, I was online doing as much research as possible. I have always been passionate about fitness, and it combined my love for business. It seemed like a perfect combination at the time.
