Frozen Yogurt Market Heats Up

After a wildly popular run in the 1980s, frozen yogurt stores are making a comeback with new locations swirling up all over Houston.
After opening a few stores in prime spots around the city, Houston-based Berripop has started franchising its frozen treat concept, while locally owned BlueBerryHill yogurt recently opened its first location.
Houston-based newcomer Fruituzy is also in expansion mode, and New York-based Tasti D-Lite is gaining popularity after recently entering the local market.
Keith Hudson, president and CEO of Charter Franchise Group, who is helping franchise Berripop and also was instrumental in franchising ice cream chain Marble Slab Creamery, says the frozen yogurt category is taking off because it appeals to a mostly younger demographic — from 25 to 40 years old — and because it’s relatively healthy in terms of frozen desserts.
