Franchisee Thanks God For Success Of The Chain
Two men climbed out of a truck last week and peered through the glass door of the Checkers Drive-In Restaurant on the Whitehorse Pike. They quickly realized their mistake.
Burgers weren’t grilling on the stoves, nor were any workers in sight – except for Darrin White, director of operations for the franchise, who is overseeing all of the minutiae that must be in order if the store is to open Monday as planned.
“This always comes down to the wire,” White said, sliding past a counter top covered in paperwork and blueprints. “It’s the nature of the business.”
That business is fast food, and one franchisee that knows all about it in southern New Jersey is Camden County-based FHG Enterprises, which is bringing Checkers back to Atlantic County for the first time since the one in Atlantic City closed several years ago. It will be the company’s 17th such restaurant.
But the Hammonton store deviates from the prototype. For one, it doesn’t have a double drive-thru – a staple for the chain. The restaurant also features indoor seating, an addition to a traditional outdoor patio.
